A haunting journey - 8/10

Top Tracks: "Skinny Love", "Re: Stacks", "Flume"

Best Lyric: "Just pour a little salt we were never here"

Loneliness. If one word could describe this album it would be loneliness. Give me two words and we'll say loneliness and remote. Each and every song revolve around these subjects in either lyrical or musical feel (more often than not both). The sound is very folky, in many ways reminding me if Iron and Wine. The lyrics are meaningful and very carefully put together; certainly the strongest part of the album and with his great voice they will keep you coming back for more. The seperation between the lyrics and the instruments is very well done and certainly adds to the albums appeal.

Listening to this you understand that this album isn't healing him, it's just a documentation of what he was feeling at the time of writing, a beautiful expression of emotion.

The second half does drag a little but not enough to bring the album down too much. If you want to know what being in a cabin, lonely and removed from the world sounds like this is it!
